Eastside of London- Sunday 2nd September

Yesterday we worked up the courage to go into the London Dungeons... after walking through Eastside (i.e. Jack the Ripper style) streets to get there we had to line up for 1 n half hours to get in but it was worth it. The dungeons are all underground and very old, they are now a theme park with rides and tour guides all dressed up going through interactive displays about torture of criminals, the plague and disease, Sweeny Todd (murderous barber who cooked people pies), the great London fire... all the scary gross history of London. Em n I got involved and were suprised at how good (although packed and bit claustrophic) it was down there. We then went across Tower bridge (and saw it open) to the Tower of London (yes another castle) and got a double decker bus to Trafalgar Square then Piccadilly Circus. Today we are taking it easy (very Londoned out) just went and picked blackberries with Ems little cousins so they can bake a pie, hehe. I think we will have one more big day in London before we move on. BTW it is Sunday today not Wednesday like it says- I am bit unco at this blog thing. Anyway, hope everyone well and enjoyed Fathers Day in Oz!!

A day at Windsor Castle... Friday 1st Sept

Yesterday we went out to Winsdor to try and meet the Queen (no luck), her castle is absolutley huge, it was real weird seeing an actual castle; very impressed. The town of Windsor is so beautiful I can see why the Queen stays there, all the streets are cobbled and very small with little old shops/ pubs/ cafes everywhere and so many hanging flowers, it reminded me of Diagon Alley (Harry Potter style), or a bit like the old fox studios/ movieworlds. Em n I spent the day exploring the streets, we had lunch (broccoli and stinton cheese soup- cheapest meal) and a pint of beer at a pub opened since 1518 (in pic). Later in night we went back to Windsor to a nightclub called Liquid (or as they say lek-wed) which is actually the best club ive ever been to; had three different rooms and was so fancy and funky, em in i carved up the dfloor, the poms were all friendly and loved talking to aussies (although so confused about Em as a halfcast), n we def werent ready to leave when it shut (cant even imagine how good London clubs must be) BUT we spent WAY to much money, eep (also very disappointed we didnt see Prince Harry who apparently hangs there a bit). We have now BOOKED and payed 3 nights in Munich for Beerfest (oct 1st w/e) camping with a tour group style package. And the Eurail, so when that is sent to us tues or wed next week we can start our trip to France. Today i went for bike ride and met some stinging nettle and saw my first native animal, a shrew, pity it was dead on the side of the road. Anyway... hope everyone well!! Till next time...

Windsor

Some pics of Windsor- will update later too hungover!

The city of London

Yesterday we caught the tube into London and I couldnt believe how amazing all the buildings were. We went to Westminster and saw the HP and Big Ben, then we walked along the Thames and saw the London Eye and all the other buildings. We went to the modern TATE and saw Picassos, Mattisses and Warhols (yes thats geeky but i liked art in school and was cool to see so many originals of works i have studied). We then went along the Thames to St. Pauls. This cathedral was the most amazing building ive ever seen, it was huge, it sounds psycho but being inside i couldnt help but feel very religious, got some good pics outside but couldnt take inside. The main streets have so many old buildings and typical london things- dd buses, funny policemen and little black taxis, etc. We were so unco with the tube (which was gross and claustrophobic) so we gonna get so lost in non-English countries! The £ is about triple the $ so we paid $12 for 2 soft serves! Today we gonna go to Windsor to see the castle and a travel agent to book our Eurail so we can start seeing rest of Europe next week. Being Thursday, tonight we can finally go hit the town so i can experience the fun nightlife of London!

Arrived in England... Jetlagged!!!- Wed 29 August

I never realised it took so long to get to England! We had an 8 hr plane trip to Singapore where we waited 6hrs for next 8 hr flight to Doha then final 7hr flight to London... we were going against time so I am so confused as to what day and time it is, but got here yesterday and got a good night sleep so sorta feeling normal again. I loved seeing Doha which is a city in Qatar just above Saudi Arabia, only was there for 2 hours but it was so different, our plane landed in random desert and got bus into terminal- it was over 35 degress and 6am, i felt rude wearing a singlet so swealtered in my black jacket, the buildings n houses were white and square like in Aladdin, so surreal. We are staying with Emmas aunt in Iver which is just west of London, all the houses are cute little cottages with lots of green bushes and flowers everywhere. We are going into London today to look around, its sunny and warm here, so will be nice. I am used to Em being my stupid pom friend, now Im the stupid aussie friend... haha. Well, hope everyone well... xo
